AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE
CITY OF BAYTOWN,TEXAS,BY THE AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER
18,"MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC,"ARTICLE IV,"SPEED
REGULATIONS,"SECTION 18-98.1,DESIGNATION OF SPEED
LIMIT ZONES,BY ALTERING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS
ESTABLISHED FOR VEHICLES UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF
ARTICLE 6701d,VERNON'S TEXAS CIVIL STATUTES,UPON
THE BASIS OF AN ENGINEERING AND TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION,
UPON PARTS OF WEST TEXAS AVENUE,WITHIN THE CORPORATE
LIMITS OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,AS SET OUT IN THIS
ORDINANCE;PRESCRIBINGA MAXIMUM PENALTY OFTWO HUNDRED
AND NO/100 ($200.00)DOLLARS FOR VIOLATION THEREOF;
AND PROVIDING FOR THE PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE
HEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THECITY COUNCIL OF THECITY OF
BAYTOWN,TEXAS:
Section 1:That the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Baytown,Texas,is hereby amended by amending Chapter 18,
"Motor Vehicles and Traffic,"Article IV,"Speed Regulations,"
Section 18-98.1,Designation of speedlimit zones,by altering
the prima facie speed limits established for vehicles under
the provisions of Article 6701d,Vernon's TexasCivil Statutes,
upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation
upon parts of West Texas Avenue,the following prima facie
speedlimit hereinafter indicated for vehicles are hereby
determined and declared tobe reasonable and prudent;and
such speed limit is hereby fixed at the rate of speed indicated
for vehicles traveling upon said street or parts thereof,
described as follows:
20 miles per hour speed zones:
(1)West Texas Avenue:From Commerce Street to Pruett
Street.
Section 2:The Chief of Police is hereby authorized
and directed to cause the proper signs to be posted at the
above described locations.
Section 3:It shall be unlawful for a driver of a
vehicle to disobey the instructions of the signs placed in
accordance with the provisions of this ordinance,unless at
the time otherwise directed by a police officer.
Section 4:Any person violating the provisions of this
ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than Two
Hundred ($200.00)Dollars,and each violation shall constitute
a separate offense.
Section 5:This ordinance shall take effect from and
after ten (10)days after its passage by the City Council.
The City Clerk is hereby directed to give notice hereof by
causing the caption of this ordinance to be published in the
official newspaper of the City of Baytown at least twice
within ten (10)days after the passage of this ordinance.
