AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,TEXAS,
PROVIDING FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A TEMPORARYTRAFFIC SIGNAL AT
THE INTERSECTIONS OF SPUR 330 AND SHADYHILLDRIVE;PRESCRIBING
AMAXIMUM PENALTY OF TWO HUNDRED AND NO/100 ($200.00)DOLLARS
FOR EACH VIOLATION;ANDPROVIDING FOR THE PUBLICATION AND EF
FECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
WHEREAS,Article 6701d,Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes,provides that local
authorities in their respective jurisdiction may place and maintain anytraffic
control device upon any highway under their jurisdiction as they may deem ne
cessary,taking into consideration the usual traffic flow of the streets or
highways within their jurisdiction.Said governing body may determine that
various local traffic control devices are necessary,and shall direct said ap
propriate devices be erected,by the passage of an ordinance,which shall be
effective when appropriate signs givingnotice thereof are erected at such
intersection or other place or part of the street or highway;NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,TEXAS:
Section 1:On the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation here
tofore made as authorized by the provisions of Article 6701d,Vernon's Texas Civil
Statutes,a temporary traffic signal shall be installed at the intersections of
Spur 330and Shady Hill Drive to alleviate traffic congestion at this intersection
during Exxon expansion.
Section 2:That pursuant to the provisions of Article 6701d,Vernon's Texas
Civil Statutes,the Chief of Police is authorized and directed to cause the tem
porary traffic signal tobe installed at the intersections of Spur 330 and Shady
Hill Drive.
Section 3:It shallbe unlawful for a driver of a vehicle to disobey the
instructions of the traffic signal place in accordance with the provisions of this
ordinance,unless at the time otherwise directed by a police officer.
Section 4:Any person violating the provisions of this ordinance shall be
punished by a fine of not more than Two Hundred ($200.00)Dollars,and each vio
lation shall constitute a separate offense.
Section 5:This ordinance shall take effect from and after ten (10)days
after its passage by the City Council.The City Clerk is hereby directed to
give notice hereof by causing the caption of this ordinance to be published in
the official newspaper of the City of Baytown at leasttwice within ten (10)
days after the passage ofthis ordinance.
