Ordinance No. 1,608ORDINANCE NO.1608 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITYOF BAYTOWN, TEXAS,BY THE AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 18,"MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC," ARTICLE V,"STOPPING,STANDING AND PARKING,"BY ADDING SECTION 115.1, MID-BLOCK PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALKS;PROHIBITING PARKING WITHIN A DISTANCE OF 100'IN ADVANCE OF AND WITHIN A DISTANCEOF 20'BEYOND ANY OFFICALLY DESIGNATED MID-BLOCK PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALK;DIRECTING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO CAUSE SAID AREA TO BE PROPERLY POSTED AND MAINTAINED;PRESCRIBING A MAXIMUM PENALTY OF TWO HUNDRED AND NO/100 ($200.00)DOLLARS FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF;AND PROVIDING FOR THE PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. BEIT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,TEXAS: Section 1:That the CodeofOrdinances of the Cityof Baytown,Texas,is hereby amended by amending Chapter 18,"Motor Vehicles and Traffic,"by adding Section 115.1,Mid-Block Pedestrian Crosswalks,which shall read as follows, to-wit: Section 115.1.Mid-Block Pedestrian Crosswalks. Except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic,or in compliance with law,or the direction of a Police Officer or an official traffic control device,no person shall stop,stand or park a vehicle within a distance of 100'in advance of and within a distance of 20" beyond any portion of a street or highway officially designated by City Council as a Mid-Block Pedestrian Crosswalk. The Chief of Police shall cause the area a distance of 100'in ad vance of and within a distance of 20'beyond any officially designated Mid-Block Pedestrian Crosswalk tobe properly posted and maintained as a "No Parking"area. Section 2:It shall be unlawful for a driver of a vehicle to disobey the instructions of the signs placed in accordance with the provisionsof this or dinance,unless at the time otherwise directed by a police officer. Section 3:Any person violating the provisions of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than Two Hundred ($200.00)Dollars,and each vi olation shall constitute a separate offense. Section 4:This ordinance shall take effect from and after ten (10)days after its passage by the City Council.The City Clerk is herebydirected to give noticehereof by causing the caption of this ordinance to be published in the official newspaper of the City of Baytown at leasttwice within ten (10) days after the passage of this ordinance.
