Ordinance No. 1,598ORDINANCE NO.1598 AN ORDINANCE ALTERING THE PRIMAFACIE SPEED LIMITS ESTABLISHED FOR VEHICLES UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 6701d,VERNON'S TEXAS CIVIL STATUTES,UPON THE BASIS OF AN ENGINEERING AND TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION,UPON CERTAINSTREETS AND HIGHWAYS,OR PARTS THEREOF,WITHIN THECORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,AS SET OUT IN THIS ORDINANCE;PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY OF NOT MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED ($200.00)DOLLARS FOR EACH VI OLATION;AND PROVIDING FORTHE EFFECTIVE DATE AND PUBLICATION OFTHISORDINANCE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,TEXAS: Section 1:Upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation heretofore made as authorized by the provisions of Article 6701d,Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes,the following prima facie speed limits hereafter indi cated for vehicles are hereby determined and declared to be reasonable and prudent;and such speed limits are hereby fixed at the rate of speed indi cated for vehicles traveling upon the named streets and highways,or parts thereof,described as follows: Ca)Lee Drive:From Gentry Street to WestMain -30 Miles Per Hour; thereby,deleting aC4)from 35 Miles Per Hour Speed Zone. Cb)WestMain Street:From Civic Drive to Market Street -30 Miles Per Hour;thereby,deleting b(2)from 40 Miles Per HourSpeed Zone. (c)Market Street:From Missouri Pacific Railroad to West Main Street - 30 Miles Per Hour;thereby,deleting b(3)from 45 Miles Per Hour Speed Zone. (d)North Main Street:From Baker Road to Lynchburg-Cedar Bayou Road - 35 Miles Per Hour. (e)Lynchburg-Cedar Bayou Road:From Harris County Flood Control Ditch 0-105-00-00 to North Main Street -35 Miles Per Hour. Cf)Lynchburg Road:From Airhart Drive to Market Street -45 Miles Per Hour. Section 2:The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed to cause the proper signs to be posted at the above described locations,where necessary. Section 3:It shall be unlawful for a driver of a vehicle to disobey the instructions of the signs placed in accordance with the provisions of this or dinance,unless at the time otherwise directed by a police officer. Section 4:Any person violating the provisions of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than Two Hundred ($200.00)Dollars,and each vio lation shall constitute a separate offense. Section 5:This ordinance shall take effect from and after ten (10)days after its passage by the City Council.The City Clerk is hereby directed to give notice hereof by causing the caption of this ordinance tobe published in the official newspaper of the City of Baytown at least twice within ten (10) days after the passage of this ordinance.
