Ordinance No. 1,432ORDINANCE NO.1432 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,TEXAS, PROVIDING FOR THE INSTALLATION OF SIGNS WHICH WOULD PROHIBIT THE OPERATION OF VEHICLES IN EXCESS OF SPECIFIED WEIGHT UPON CERTAIN STREETS OR PARTS OF STREETS;PROVIDING A PENALTY CLAUSE, AND PROVIDING FORTHE PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,TEXAS: Section 1:That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Baytown,Texas,is hereby amended by adding to Chapter 18,"Motor Vehicles and Traffic",a new Section 18-42,Weight Limits on Specific Streets and Bridges,which shall read as follows, to-wit: Section 18-42.Weight Limits on Specific Streets and Bridges. When signs are erected giving notice thereof,no person shall operate any vehicle with a gross weight in excess of the amounts specified onsuch signs at any time upon any of the streets,parts of streets,or bridges so signed.Under this section,as vehicle weight is indicated by the number of axles supporting such vehicles,signs limiting the numberof axles on through vehicles shallbe official. Section 2:That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Baytown,Texas,is hereby amended by adding to Chapter 18,"Motor Vehicles and Traffic",a new Section 14-42.1,Designation of Gross Weight,which shall read as follows,to-wit: Section 18-42.1 Designation of Gross Weight. (a)5,000pounds (2 1/2 Tons)Limit (i)That portion of West Texas Avenue crossing the bridge over Goose Creek Stream. (b)6,000 pounds (3 Tons)Limit (i)That portion of Civic Drive from Civic Circle to Market Street. Section 3:The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed to cause the proper signs to be posted at the above referred to locations. /pv Section 4:Any person violating the provisions of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than Two Hundred ($200.00)Dollars and each violation shall constitute a separate offense. Section 5:Effective Date:This ordinance shall take effect from and after ten (10)days after its passage by the City Council.The City Clerk is hereby directed to give notice hereof by causing the caption of this ordinance to be published in the official newspaper of the City of Baytown at leasttwice within ten (10)days after its passage.
