Ordinance No. 1,299.w ORDINANCE NO. 1299 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, EXEMPTING THREE THOUSAND AND NO /100 ($3,000.00) DOLLARS OF THE ASSESSED VALUE OF RESIDENCE HOMESTEADS OF PERSONS SIXTY -FIVE (65) YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER FROM AD VALOREM TAXES LEVIED BY THE CITY OF BAYTOWN FROM AND AFTER JANUARY 1, 1973, AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN: Section l: That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Baytown, Texas, is hereby amended by adding a new chapter to be numbered Chapter 28 1/2, and to be entitled "Taxation ", which shall read as follows, to -wit: CHAPTER 28 112 TAXATION Section 28 1/2 -1. Exceptions to payment of ad valorem taxes. From and after January 1, 1973, Three Thousand and No /100 ($3,000.00) Dollars of the assessed value of residence homesteads of persons sixty - five (65) years of age or older shall be exempted from ad valorem taxes levied by the City of Baytown; provided, however, that the person de- siring the right of exemption shall first prepare and file with the Tax Assessor - Collector of the City of Baytown a sworn statement stating his name, age and the legal description of said residence homestead, and provided further that a single piece of property shall be entitled to no more than one residence homestead exemption. Section 2: That this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
