Ordinance No. 614ORDID1dDICE N0. 614 AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS-OF THE BOND ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 20TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 1960; CONTAINING OTHER PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING THAT THIS ORDINANCE SHALL TAKE EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS ADOPTION THE STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF HARRIS § The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, convened in cial,:+ session at the City Hall within said City on the day of September, 1960, with the following members present, to -wit: • R. H. Pruett Mayor Mrs. Velma J. Ansley Councilman Kenneth E. Badgett Councilman Seaborn Cravey Councilman Roy H. Hughes Councilman Lacy Lusk Councilman Walter Lane Ward Councilman Edna Oliver City Clerk and the following member(s) absent, to-wit: ) when, among other business; the following was transacted: The Mayor introduced an ordinance which was read in full. Councilman L2_ t�lll made a motion that the ordinance be adopted as read. Councilman seconded the 0 motion for adoption of the ordinance. The motion, carrying with it the adoption of the ordinance, prevailed by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen Anslcy, Badgett, Cravey, Hughes, Lusk, Ward, and Mayor Pruett. NOES: None. UCL_ i14 AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE BOND ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 20TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 1960; CONTAINING OTHER PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING THAT THIS ORDINANCE SHALL TAKE EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS ADOPTION WHEREAS, there was held in the City of Baytown, Texas, on the 20th day of September, 1960, an election at which was sub- mitted to the duly qualified resident electors of said City who owned taxable property within said City and who had duly rendered the same for taxation, for their action thereupon, the following.propo- sition, to -wit: PROPOSITION SHALL THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, BE AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE THE BONDS OF SAID CITY IN THE AMOUNT OF $350,000, MATURING SERIALLY WITHIN 30 YEARS FROM THEIR DATE OR DATES, AND BEARING INTEREST AT A RATE OR RATES NOT TO EXCEED 5% PER ANNUM, FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTING AND EQUIPPING A MUNICIPAL BUILDING, TO -WIT: A CITY LIBRARY BUILDING, INCLUDING THE PURCHASE OF THE NECESSARY SITE THEREFOR, AND TO LEVY AN ANNUAL TAX ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY WITHIN SAID CITY SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE INTEREST ON SAID BONDS AS IT ACCRUES AND TO CREATE AND PROVIDE A SINKING FUND TO PAY THE PRINCI- PAL OF SAID BONDS AS IT MATURES? (The probable period of usefulness of the improvements for which the bond proceeds are to be expended is 40 years.) and WHEREAS, there were cast at said election votes, of which number there were cast: FOR THE ISSUANCE OF CITY LIBRARY votes BUILDING BONDS AGAINST THE ISSUANCE OF CITY LIBRARY BUILDING BONDS votes MAJORITY FOR THE ISSUANCE OF CITY LIBRARY BUILDING BONDS votes as shown in the official election returns heretofore submitted to the City Council of said City and filed with the City Clerk; and WHEREAS, it appears, and the City Council so finds and de- 0 clares, that said election was called, held, and conducted in all • • ® respects under and in strict conformity with law; Therefore BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN: Section 1: That the bond election described in the pre- amble to this ordinance was duly called and notice thereof given in accordance with law; that said election was held in the manner re- quired by law; that only duly qualified resident electors of the City of Baytown, Texas, who.owned taxable property within said City and who had duly rendered the same.for taxation voted at said elec- tion; that due returns of said election have been made by the proper officers; that said election has resulted favorably to the issuance ® of the bonds described in the proposition; and that a majority of the qualified voters voting at said election have voted in favor of the issuance of the bonds described in said proposition and the levy of.taxes in payment thereof. Section 2: That the City Council of said City is now authorized to issue the bonds described in said proposition, to levy taxes in payment thereof, and to do any and all acts and things nec- essary and /or convenient in connection therewith. Section 3: That this ordinance shall take effect and be ® in full force from and after its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED, this the LL day of September, 1960.
