Ordinance No. 589• ORDINANCE NO. 589 AN URU1NANGE ORDEHING' A SPECIAL tLt:L; iDN TO BE HELD ON THE 30TH DAY OF APRIL, 1960, FOR THE PUR- POSE OF ELECTING THREE (3) COUNCILMEN FROM TUF., RESPECTIVE DISTRICTS NOS. 1, 4 AND 5; PROVIDING FOR ELECTION OFFICERS; DESIGNATING THE PLACES AND MANNER OF HOLDING SAID ELECTION; PRESCRIBING THE HOURS AND PROVIDING FOR THE POSTING AND PUBLICA- TION OF NOTICE. ---- o--- 0-- -o - - -- WHEREAS, on the 5th day of April, 1960, the regular Municipal Election of the city of Baytown was held in said City for the purpose of electing three Council- men from the respective Districts Nos. 1, 4 and 5, and the returns of said Election having been duly made by the Election Officials and the City Council having canvasse said returns and determined the results of said Election on this the 13th day of April, 1960; and WHEREAS, it is determined from the canvassing of said returns that no candi- date for Councilman from said Districts Nos. 1, 4 and 5 received a majority of the votes cast at the regular Election for the office of which they were candidates, and accordingly, pursuant to Section 94 of Article IX of the Charter of the City of Bay- town, it is the duty of the City Council to order a Special Election for the purposE of submitting to a vote of the qualified voters of said City the names of the two candidates from each District receiving the highest number of votes at the regular • Election for the office -of Councilman from the said Districts 1, 4 and 5, in order that the voters may designate and elect three candidates from the respective Dist- tricts 1, 4 and 5, as Councilman from said Districts; and WHEREAS, as set out in the Resolution this day passed by the City Council of the City of Baytown, the six candidates receiving the highest number of votes for said offices are as follows: District Number One (1) Seaborn Cravey Tony Campos District Number Four (4) Mrs. Velma Ansley Raymond F. Tickner District Number Five (5) Al Clayton Roy H. Hughes NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN: • • Section 1: That a Special Election of the City of Baytown, as provided in Section 94, Article IX of the Charter of the said City, shall be held between the hours of 7:00 o'clock a.m. and 7:00 o'clock p.m. on the 30th day of April, 1960, in said City for the purpose of electing a Councilman from the respective Districts One, Four and Five, from the candidates listed as follows:. For Councilman from District No. 1: Seaborn Cravey Tony Campos For Councilman from District No. 4: Mrs. Velma J. Ansley Raymond F. Tickner For Councilman from District No. 5: • Al Clayton Roy H.
