AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING A BOARD OF EQUALIZATION
TO SERVE FOR THE YEAR 1959; FIXING THE TIME OF
® THE FIRST j,1EETIN'G OF SAID BOARD AND AUTHORIZING
SAID BOARD TO EXERCISE THE POUTER AND FULFILL THE
DUTIES COPFERRED UPON IT BY THE CHARTER OF THE
CITY OF BAYTOWN. .
WHEREAS, in Article VIII, Section 83 of the Charter of the City of Baytown,
it is provided that the City Council shall each year prior to the 1st day of June,
appoint three residents of said City who shall be qualified voters and real property
owners, as the Board of Equalization, said Charter also providing that the Council
shall fix the time of the first meeting of said Board of Equalization, I\D11, THERE-
FORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN:
Section 1: That the following named resident citizens of the City of Bay-
town, each of whom is a qualified voter and a, real property owner, are hereby ap-
pointed as and shall constitute the Board of Equalization for the current year,to -wit:
I , Carter H. Miller
2. Robert Kerr
3. L.D. Victor
Said board shall serve from and after the 1st day of June, 1959, and as long there-
after as may be necessary to hear, review and determine the value and assessments
appear on the tax roll for the year 1959.
Section 2: It shall be the duty of said Board to hear and determine the com,
plaint of any person that assessments of property as made and returned by the City
• Assessor - Collector, are in excess of the true value of said properties and to review,
examine and, if necessary, revise the assessments as returned by the City Tax Assess-
or- Collector to the end that all property within the City shall be assessed as fairly
and as uniformly as possible. Said Board of Equalization shall have the authority
and shall exercise all of the powers and fulfill all of the duties granted and con-
ferred upon it by the express provisions of the Charter of the City of Baytown.
Section 3: The Board of Equalization shall hold its first meeting on the
1st day of June, 1959, and thereafter shall reconvene and adjourn from time to time
as long as may be !necessary in the premises.

AS TO SPECIAL BENEFITS TO ACCRUE BY VIRTUE OF

SUFFICIENCY, REGULARITY AND VALIDITY OF THE PRO-
CEEDINGS AND CONTRACT IN CONNECTION WITH SAID

ALL PROTESTS AND OBJECTIONS OFFERED; FINDING AND
DETERMINING SPECIAL BENEFITS TO EACH PARCEL OF

AMOUNT OF THE SPECIAL ASSESSMENT AGAINST SAME;
FINDING THE REGULARITY OF ALL PROCEEDINGS AND THE
PERFORMANCE OF ALL PREREQUISITES TO FIXING THE
ASSESSMENT LIENS AND THE PERSONAL LIABILITY OF
THE PROPERTY OWNERS; LEVYING ASSESSMENTS, FIXING
CHARGES AND LIENS AGAINST SAID PROPERTIES ABUTTING
