AN ORDINANCE ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE
CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 24TH DAY OF MARCH, 1956, FOR THE
PURPOSE OF APPROVING OR DISAPPROVING ADDITIONAL FEDERAL
PUBLIC HOUSING FOR BAYTOWN; PROVIDING FOR ELECTION OFFICERS;
DESIGNATING EGHE PLACES AND MANNER OF HOLDING SAID ELECTION;
PRESCRIBING THE HOURS AND PROVIDING FOR THE POSTING AND
PUBLICATION OF NOTICE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section 1: THAT a, special election is hereby ordered to be held in said
City of Baytown on the 24�h day of March, 1956, for the purpose of approving
or disapproving additional Federal Public 'Housing for Baytown.
Section 2: THAT, uponn canvassing the returns, the Council of the City of
Baytown, acting upon the.decision of the majority vote, shall proceed with or
cancel further negotiations with the Federal Government for permission to build
additional units to supplement the present projects within Baytown.
• Section 3: THAT the aforementioned special election shall be held in the
City of Baytown on the above mentioned date between the hours of 7 o'clock A.M.
and 7 o'clock P.M., and that said City is hereby divided into election precincts
and their polling places will,be and election officials shall be, for the
purpose of this election, as follows:

Section 4: THAT this election shall be held in accordance with and shall
be governed by the election laws of the State of Tex as. In all city elections
the Mayor, City Clerk, or the governing body shall do and perform each act in
other elections required to be done and performed respectively by the county
judge, the county clerk, or the commissioner's court. The notice or proclamation
of this and all other city elections shall be issued and posted at the polling
places not later than 30 days before the date of said election.
Section 5: THAT the form of the - ballot for said election shall be sub-
stantially as follows:
"OFFICIAL BALLOT"
FOR ADDITIONAL PUBLIC HOUSING, not to exceed 150 units
AGAINST ADDITIONAL PUBLIC HOUSING
THOSE desiring to vote for the adoption of Additional Public Housing shall
strike out the words 'Against Additonal Public Housing', and those desireing.to,
vote against the adoption of Additional Public Housing shall strike out the
words 'For Additional Public Housing, not to exceed 150 units'."
Section 6: THAT a copy of this Ordinance signed by the Mayor of the City
of Baytown, Teams, and attested by the City Colerk of the City shall serve as
a proper Notice of the Election to be held as herein ordered on the_24th day of
March, 1956. The Mayor is authorized and directed to have said Notice of Election
published in some newspaper of general circulation in said City, the date of such

publication being not less than thirty (30) full days prior to the date of
said election. The Chief of Police shall be directed to post a properly executed
copy of such notice at each polling place within the City. Said notice shall be
posted not less than thirty (30) days before the said election.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of a majority of the
members of the City Council of the City of Baytown on this 18th day of January,
A. D., 1956.
