• AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING ABANDONMENT OF ICE BOXES, REFRIGERATORS
OR OTHER CONTAINERS WHICH ARE AIRTIGHT; PRESCRIBING A,FINE OF
NOT MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED ($200) DOLLARS; AND PROVIDIN 'FOR THE
PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
WHEREAS, there have been instances of children suffocating to death in abandoned,
unattended ice boxes, refrigerators and other airtight containers which, when closed,
cannot be opened from the inside.

WHEREAS, these abandoned., unattended or discarded ice boxes, refrigerators ar
other airtight containers are a constant menace to the health, welfare and safety
of children in the City of Baytown; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDA INEDBY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN:
SECTION 1: THAT it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to
• leave outside of any.building, unattended, any ice box, refrigerator or other.
airtight container unless such ice box, refrigerator or other airtight container
is equipped with a catch or a lock which can be released from the inside.
SECTION 1: Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate this
ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be
punished by a fine of not more than Two Hundred ($200) Dollars. Each day's violation
shall constitute a separate offense.
SECTION 3: This ordinance shall take effect from and after ten (10) days
from its passage by the City Council. The City Clerk is hereby directed to give
notice hereof by causing the caption of this ordinance to be published in the official
newspaper of the City of Baytown at least twice within ten (10) days after the
• passage of this ordinance.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of a majority of the City
Council of the City of Baytown on this 27th day of August, 1953.
