Ordinance No. 85ORDINANCE NO. 85 AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING A MEMBER TO THE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION SO AS TO FILL A VACANCY IN SAID BOARD WHICH WAS CREATED BY THE RESIGNATION OF ONE OF THE THREE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION; AND AUTHORIZING THIS NEW MEMBER TO EXERCISE THE POWERS AND FULFILL THE DUTIES CONFERRED UPON HIM BY THE CHARTER-OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, SAID POWERS AND DUTIES ARE TO BE EXERCISED AND FULFILLED IN CON- JUNCTION WITH THE TWO REMAINING MEMBERS. WHEREAS, in Article VIII, Section 83, of the Charter of the City of Baytown, it is provided that the City Council shall each year prior to the lst day of June appoint three residents of said City who shall be qualified voters and real prop- erty owners, as the Board of Equalization, said Charter also providing that the Council shall fix the time of the first meeting of said Board of Equalization; and WHEREAS, said Council did satisfy the dictates of the above Charter pro- visions; and WHEREAS, one member of the Board of Equalization has resigned; and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Baytown is of the opinion that this vacancy should be filled in fairness to the property owners of said city; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN: SECTION 1: THAT the following named resident citizen of the City of Baytown, who is a qualified voter and a real property owner, is hereby appointed as and shall constitute a member of the Board of Equalization to serve for the remainder of -the current appointive year, to wit: r^ H. E. BRUNSON Said board member shall serve from and after the 29th day of August, 1950, and as long thereafter as may be necessary to hear, review, and determine the value and assessment of all property, both real and personal, within the City of Baytown as said assessments appear on the tax roll for the year 1950. SECTION 2: It shall be the duty of said board member, in conjunction with the other two board members, to hear and determine the complaint of any person or persons that assessments of property as made and returned by the City Assessor - Collector are in excess of the true value of said properties and to review, examine, and, if necessary, revise the assessments as returned by the City Assessor - Collector to the end that all property within the city shall be assessed as fairly and as uniformly as possible. Said member shall, in conjunction with the other two board members, have the authority and shall exercise all of the pourers and fulfill all of the .duties granted and conferred upon him by the express provisions of the Charter of the City of Baytown. ~ INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of a majority of the members of the City Council of the City of Baytown this 29th day of August, 1950.
