AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION
OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN; PROVIDING FOR THE DUTIES OF
THE DIRECTOR OF RECREATION; REPEALING ORDINANCES IN-
CONFLICT AND PROVIDING FOR TIM EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN:
Section It There is hereby created a Department of the City to be knom as the
"Department of Recreation.«
Section 2: The Department of Recreation shall be under the control and manage-
ment of the Director of Recreation who shall be appointed by the City Manager,
subject to the approval of the City Council.
Section 3: All children's playgrounds, indoor recreation centers, play fields,
® gymnasiums, swimming pools, comfort stations or other recreational properties now owned
or controlled by the City, or that hereafter may be established or acquired by the
City, shall be under the control and management of the Director of Recreation.
Section 4: The Director of Recreation and his representatives shall at all times
seek to promote close cooperation between the City of Baytown and all private citizens,
institutions and agencies interested in or conducting recreational activities, to the
end that all recreational resources within the City may be coordinated to secure the
greatest public welfare.
Section 5: The Director of Recreation may, and for an behalf of the City, re-
ceive donations, legacies, or bequests for the improvement or maintenance of play
grounds or recreational properties, and all monies obtained in this manner shall,
® unless otherwise provided by the terms of such donations, legacies, or bequests, be
deposited in the Treasury of the City, and shall be appropriated by the City Council
to the Recreation Department, and shall be disbursed and accounted for as are all
other funds of the City.
Section 6: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are here-
by repealed.
Section 7: Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its
passage by the City Council,
