Ordinance No. 12t ORDINANCE -No. 12 AN ORDINANCE ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE FIRST DAY OF NAY, 1948, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING TWO COUNCILMEN FROM THE RE- SPECTIVE DISTRICTS NO. 3 AND 5; PROVIDING FOR IMECTION OFFICERS, DESIGNATING THE PLACES AND 1&&NNER OF HOLDING SAID SELECTION, PRESCRIBING THE HOURS AIVD PROVIDING FOR THE POSTING AND PUB- LICATION OF NOTICE. WHEREAS, on the 6th day of April, 1948, the regular municipal election of the City of Baytown was held in said city for the purpose of electing four councilmen from the respective districts No. 1, 3, 4 and 5, and the returns of said election having been duly made by the election officials and the City Council having canvassed said returns and determined the results of said election on this the 14th day of April, 1948, and is WHEREAS, it is determined from the canvassing of said returns that no candidate for councilaman from district No. 3 and no candidate for councilman from district No. 5 received a majority of the votes cast at the regular election for the office for which he was a candidate, and accordingly, pursuant to Section 94 of Article IX of the charter of the City of Baytown, it is the duty of the City Council to order a special election for the purpose of submitting to a vote of the qualified voters of said city the names of the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes at the regular election for the office of councilman from the respective districts No. 3 and 5 in order that the voters may designate and elect one of the two candidates from each of the said districts No:. 3 and 5 as councilman from his respective district; and WHEREAS, as set out in the Resolution this day passed by the City Council of the City of Baytown, the two candidates from each of the districts in question receiving the highest number of votes for said office are as follows: District No. 3 0. 0. Keller NOW., THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN: -1- . i Section 1: THAT a special election of the City of Baytown, as pro- vided in Section 94, Article IX-of the charter of said city, shall be held ® between the hours of 7 o'clock A.M. and 7 o'clock P.M. on the 1st day of May, 1918, in said city for the purpose of electing a councilman from the respective districts 3 and 5 from the candidates listed as follows: For councilman from district 3: Shannon L.
