2018 08 01 BAWA Minutes, SpecialMINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE BAYTOWN AREA WATER AUTHORITY August 1, 2018 The Board of Directors of the Baytown Area Water Authority (BAWA) met in a Special Meeting on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at 9:00 A.M., in the Council Chamber of the Baytown City Hall, 2401 Market Street, Baytown, Texas with the following in attendance: Brenda Bradley Smith President Mike Wilson Vice President Frank McKay III Secretary Brandon Benoit Director Rick Davis General Manager Ignacio Ramirez, Sr. General Counsel Alisha Segovia Deputy Assistant Secretary President Bradley Smith convened the August 1, 2018, BAWA Board Special Meeting with a quorum present at 9:00 A.M., all members were present with the exception of Director Forrest who was absent. The members then boarded a bus with City staff and any members of the public present at the meeting and were transported via bus service to the BAWA East Plant Water Treatment Facility to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony. Upon arrival at the facility, City of Baytown Mayor Stephen DonCarlos welcomed those presented and made opening remarks regarding the new treatment plant. BAWA President Bradley Smith followed with special remarks regarding the new plant and its many benefits to the community. BAWA General Manager Rick Davis and BAWA Superintendent Frank Simoneaux made comments regarding the plant and noted that the new plant will have an initial capacity of 6 million gallons per day and will eventually upgrade to 24 million gallons per day; it is located on a 60 acres site with access to both fresh and salt water that will in the future become as desalinization drinking water facility; and will offer a dual water system feed and system redundancy with the original BAWA Plant in the event of an emergency. Members of the BAWA Board and Council participated in the groundbreaking and picture taking activities. Upon completion of the ceremony, the BAWA Board members, City staff and any members of the public present were transported back via the same transport to Baytown City Hall, 2401 Market Street, where upon arrival the meeting was completed. A motion was made by Director Mike Wilson and seconded by Director Frank McKay III to adjourn the August 1, 2018, BAWA Board Special Meeting.
