CC Resolution No. 2493RESOLUTION NO. 2493 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE GOAL OF OBTAINING NO -KILL STATUS BY 2025 FOR THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ANIMAL CONTROL FACILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. ****************************************************************************** WHEREAS, the City of Baytown Animal Control Facility has undergone two independent reviews of its facilities and operations, which reviews concluded that the current facility and operations were found to be compliant with both state regulations and common operating procedures; and WHEREAS, the City of Baytown supports the continued progress of implementing reasonable recommendations for improvements; and WHEREAS, a no -kill facility is a facility in which 90 percent or more of all healthy adoptable animals entering the City's Animal Control Facility are saved; and WHEREAS, the City of Baytown supports implementing programs and policies to become a no -kill facility by increasing live outcomes and decreasing euthanasia; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the City of Baytown supports the goal of obtaining no -kill status by 2025 by creating a sustainable system that saves 90 percent or more of all healthy adoptable animals entering its care. Section 2: That in furtherance of the goal referenced in Section 1, the City of Baytown shall develop a Facilities and Operational Master Plan with funding provided in the 2017-2018 Annual Budget. Section 3: That in furtherance of the goal referenced in Section 1, the City of Baytown supports working with the community, rescue and animal welfare groups and the veterinary community to implement a comprehensive plan to reach no -kill goal by 2025. Section 4: That the City Council hereby directs staff to present the plans referenced in Sections 2 and 3 to the City Council on or before December 31, 2018. Section 5: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas.
