A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, REGISTERING ITS SUPPORT OF CHAMBERS COUNTY MAYORS
COALITION'S EFFORTS TOWARDS A COASTAL BARRIER SYSTEM TO
PROTECT THE HOUSTON /GALVESTON REGION FROM STORM SURGE
AND THE SUB - TROPICAL RAIN EVENTS, INCLUDING STATE FUNDING
FOR A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY TO DETERMINE THE MOST
EFFECTIVE COASTAL BARRIER SYSTEM TO SAFEGUARD THE
REGION; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, on May 29, 2015, the Chambers County Mayors Coalition (the "Coalition ")
passed a resolution supporting a coastal barrier system to protect the Houston/Galveston region
from storm surge and sub - tropical rain events and requesting funding from the State of Texas to
provide for comprehensive studies to determine the most effective coastal barrier system to
safeguard the region; and
WHEREAS, the City Council concurs with the Coalition's conclusion that a coastal barrier
system is technically feasible, economically sound, environmentally friendly and socially equitable
and justifies funding from the State of Texas to conduct comprehensive studies to determine the
most effective coastal barrier system to safeguard the entire Houston/Galveston region;
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown desires to register its support of the Coalition's efforts in
this regard; NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:
Section 1: That the City Council hereby registers its support of the Coalition's
efforts towards the creation of a coastal barrier system and of the State's funding for studies to
advance the continued development of such a system in order to provide comprehensive
protection to the people, industries, businesses, schools, governmental facilities, residences, and
associated infrastructure within the Houston/Galveston region.
Section 2: That the City Manager is authorized to take all actions necessary to
register the City's support of the development of a coastal barrier system and of the State's
funding of the necessary studies to advance the development of such a system.
Section 3: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by
the City Council of the City of Baytown.
