June 29, 2005
The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in work session on June 29, 2005, at 3:30 p.m.
at the Wayne Gray Sports Complex, 5200 East Road, Baytown, Texas, with the following in
attendance:

The meeting was called to order at 4:20 p.m.with a quorum present after which the following
business was conducted:
Ribbon- cutting for the renovated Wayne Gray Sports Complex.
Mayor Mundinger welcomed the attendees and recognized the Parks and Recreation Department
employees who have worked to bring the project to fruition. The Council Members present were
introduced. Mayor Mundinger introduced Tent' Sain and Fritz Lanham, Board Members of the
Baytown Municipal Development District. Other dignitaries were recognized, Amy Blanchett with
Congressman Ted Poe's office, former Mayor Pete C. Alfaro, Raymond Sanchez with Justice of the
Peace Mike Parrot's office, and Tina with Constable Ken Jones office.
Scott Johnson, Director of Parks and Recreation, recognized the contractors who participated in the
renovation project, the City's Engineering Department, Gary Jackson, City Manager, Bob Leiper,
Deputy City Manager, Kelvin Knauf, Assistant City Manager, for their contributions in the
renovation project. Members of the Parks and Recreation staff were introduced and thanked for
their work. Mr. Johnson gave a brief history of the Sports Complex.
Wayne Gray introduced other members of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Tony Fama,
Bennie Kadjar, and Lynne Foley, and expressed the Board's pleasure at the completion of the
renovation of the complex.

r' Ken Terry, Baytown Girls Softball Association, stated that over 400 girls participate in the softball
program. The Blue Thunder was the 2004 state champion. The Association is hosting a tournament
this weekend with over 40 teams participating. He commended the Parks staff for their cooperation
and work.
Cheri Laughlin and Terry Sain, current and past President of the Rotary Club of Baytown, Texas,
explained that Rotary participated in the renovation project by helping to fund the construction of a
pavilion.
The ribbon was cut, opening the renovated Wayne Gray Sports Complex, with City Council, the
Municipal Development District, Baytown Girls Softball Association, the Parks and Recreation
Advisory Board, and the Baytown Chamber of Commerce participating.
Mayor Mundinger and Wayne Gray threw of the ceremonial first pitches to Katelyn and Ashleigh
Bigham.
Adjourn.
Council Member Renteria left the Sports Complex at 4:42 p.m. Council Member Murray left the
Sports Complex at 4:46 p.m. Mayor Mundinger left the Sports Complex at 4:50 p.m.
