2005 01 27 WS MinutesMINUTES OF THE WORK SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN January 27, 2005 The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in work session on January 27, 2005, at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber, Baytown City Hall, 2401 Market Street, Baytown, Texas, with the following in attendance: Sammy Mahan Don Murray Mercedes Renteria Scott Sheley Sheryl G. Ward Calvin Mundinger Gary M. Jackson Bob Leiper Ignacio Ramirez, Sr. Gary W. Smith Absent was: Ronnie Anderson, Council Member. Council Member Council Member Council Member Council Member Council Member Mayor City Manager Deputy City Manager City Attorney City Clerk The meeting was opened with a quorum present after which the following business was conducted: Conduct interviews for the Municipal Court Judge(s). Mayor Mundinger provided introductory remarks for each of the candidates, Julie Escalante, Michael Mark, and Arlene Polk. The interviews were conducted by allowing each candidate to describe him/herself and his/her career and by allowing each to respond to the same five questions. Following the interviews, Council discussed consideration of the decision - making process during the special Council Meeting on Monday, January 31, 2005. In the discussion, Council supported making the decision based upon positives and strengths of the candidates. Council Member Renteria left the meeting at 5:10 p.m. Announce schedule for discussion of televising City Council meetings. Mayor Mundinger stated that Council Member Anderson would not be in attendance at the regular meeting on January 27, 2005 and might not be able to attend the next regular meeting. Council Member Anderson had expressed concerns about the proposal and Mayor Mundinger wanted him to be present when the item was considered. Because it had been stated that the decision on televising City Council meetings would be on the January 27, 2005 agenda, he announced the delay of consideration of the item until Council Member Anderson could be present. Gary Jackson, City Manager, stated his intention to appoint David Jirrels to the Civil Service Commission and ask for Council's confirmation. Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals. This item was not ready for action. Adjourn. Council Member Sheley moved adjournment. Council Member Mahan seconded the motion. The vote follows: Ayes: Council Members Mahan, Murray, Sheley, and Ward. Mayor Mundinger. Nays: None. The motion carried. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:20 p.m. City Clerk
