OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
March 2, 2002
The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in work session on March 2, 2002, at
2:00 p.m. at the Municipal Court and Jail, 3120 North Main Street, Baytown, Texas, with
the following in attendance:
Coleman Godwin Council Member
Calvin Mundinger Council Member
Don Murray Council Member
Mercedes Renteria III Council Member
Pete C. Alfaro
Mayor
Monte Mercer
City Manager
Gary W. Smith
City Clerk
Absent: Ronnie Anderson
Council Member
Scott Sheley
Council Member
The meeting was opened with a quorum present after which the following business was
conducted:
Presentation of Colors and invocation.
The Police Department Honor Guard presented the colors. Police Chaplain Proctor offered
the invocation.
Patrol Officer John Butler introduced the dignitaries present, including Mayor Pete C.
Alfaro, Council Members Mercedes Renteria, Calvin Mundinger, Don Murray and
Coleman Godwin, City Manager Monte Mercer, Byron Jones, interim Chief of Police and
Bob Merchant, Assistant Chief of Police, retired.
Mayor Pete C. Alfaro led the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Alfaro addressed the attendees and thanked the voters and others who had made the
building of the facility possible.
Interim Police Chief Byron Jones welcomed the guests on behalf of the Police Department
and extended a special thank you to the Engineering Department and Public Works
Department who were essential in the construction of the facility. Captain Jackie Erikson
and Sergeant Keli Anderson were recognized for their special roles in completing the
facility.

Mayor Pete C. Alfam and Council Members Mercedes Renteria, Calvin Mundinger, Don
Murray and Coleman Godwin jointly cut the ribbon for the new jail and opened the facility
for lours.
