A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS,
ENCOURAGING THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE TO DIRECT STATE FUNDS
TOWARD BROADBAND DEPLOYMENT TO ENSURE THAT ALL TEXANS HAVE
THE CONNECTIVITY THEY NEED TO SUCCEED IN TODAY'S SOCIETY; AND
PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.

WHEREAS high-speed internet access,or broadband,is essential in our increasingly digital world;
and
WHEREAS the City recognizes that broadband networks enhance economic, educational, and
healthcare outcomes; and
WHEREAS the City acknowledges that too many Texans, including citizens of the City of
Baytown, still lack access to the broadband connections required to fully participate in and benefit from
today's educational,professional, economic, and civic opportunities; and
WHEREAS the City understands that building, maintaining and operating broadband networks is
extremely expensive, especially in non-metro and hard-to-reach areas, and that closing the digital divide
will require the public and private sectors working together; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,TEXAS:
Section 1: That the City of Baytown encourages the Texas Legislature to direct state funds
toward broadband deployment to ensure that all Texans have the connectivity they need to succeed in
today's society.
Section 2: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City
Council of the City of Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Council of the City of
Baytown this the 23'day of February, 2023.
